Universifight -- a game project

During my first year in university, we were tasked with a group project in Python class; pick any topic we’d like and build it using Python. For reference, that was also the time when my obsession with the game ‘Darkest Dungeon’ had started, therefore I convinced my friends to make a similar game, but different story.

So, our first idea was:

“How about we represent the average uni student slang by making the main heroes a bunch of students battling with the game enemies — the actual uni classes. Let’s have them go to the club and play lottery for destress, that would be funny.”

Guess our professor’s reaction.

He hated it LMAO. Thought it was an attack on education and our university… which was rather funny.

We ended up changing the story to:

“Let’s make it a fantasy environment. The main heroes represent students whose fear for exams turn university classes into monsters; so let’s have them ‘combat’ with their fears, to promote a possitive message about getting over your fears.”

Aaand just like that, this idea went through, EVEN THOUGH the professor still was not that excited. But we got to work!

🪸 What the game features.

• Original character art. The backgrounds were taken from ‘Darkest Dungeon’
• Turn based combat and 4 playable characters.
• 3 levels with 3 bosses.
• The stress mechanic. Enemies strike both to body and mind.

We got a final grade of 9/10 which was fair enough since we promised to add more stuff but unfortunately did not have enough time. Big shoutout and thanks to my group friends Bill and Leda (aka the knight and elf in the game) :p
